Enrolment
Prior to entering school students are issued with an enrolment pack, which contains information about the school and various other forms to be signed. We also need to see the child’s birth certificate and immunisation record, so that these may be photocopied for our records.
In the term before your child starts school, they are invited to make weekly visits to the school and spend time in the Junior classroom.
School Uniform
When children enter Drummond Primary School as new student at any year level they are expected to purchase a Drummond Primary School uniform and safety vest. We also have a sports uniform which is to be worn to school each Friday.
The uniform is dark blue with white trim and the school logo. You can purchase our uniform from Uniform NZ by going online at UNIFORM WEBSITE, search in find uniforms, type in Drummond primary School, click on the yellow the Drummond School and follow instructions, or by visiting their shop at Hangar 1, 82 Airport Avenue, Invercargill – telephone 03 218 9152 Orders made online can be delivered free to the school.
The school does have a small supply of 2nd hand uniforms for sale. Please contact the principal.
Children are asked to wear Black shoes as part of the uniform and sports shoes/sneakers on a Friday with the school sports uniform.
All children need to wear a fluorescent safety vest to and from school.
School Stationery
The school maintains stocks of all necessary stationery items used by the children in the school. The school supplies all students’ stationery unless a parent notifies the principal otherwise. A note is kept of all stationery supplied and stationery accounts are sent out towards the end of each term. Prompt payment is appreciated.
The school also purchases class sets of felt pens, crayons, washable markers, app store access, hand sanitiser, sunscreen and tissues for child use. Parents are asked to contribute to these costs by paying a fee of $7 per child per term. This cost is also added to accounts. School donations are $15 per child per term with a maximum of $40 per family for Terms One, Two and Three. These are not added to accounts in Term Four.
ICT
Year 7 and 8 pupils attend the Technology Centre at Winton School four full days per term throughout the year. They attend with senior students from a neighbouring school and complete these four days in one week. Activities include food and materials technology, wood and metalwork. Reports from the Technology Centre are sent to the school at the end of the year which are forwarded home to parents via children.
There is a $30 charge for this to cover materials supplied, and this is added to your end of term account.
School Bus
The Oreti – Drummond – Isla Bank area is covered by a school bus run. For matters concerning eligibility for pupils to travel on the bus, please contact the Principal or Office Administrator at school.

Swimming Pool
We have a covered, heated swimming pool, which operates during the summer months. The pool is a community pool and families in the district are asked to pay for a key if they wish to use the pool outside school hours. The cost of the key is set by the BOT annually. The Ministry of Education now requires the BOT to obtain signed agreements from pool users and a form will be sent on request for a key. The key will be issued upon receiving the signed agreement form and sent home with a copy of the form for each family’s preference.
The school, via the Southern REAP programme, has a swimming tutor visit the Drummond Pool in February for two full weeks. Children are asked to wear caps and goggles for these daily lessons.
YEAR 6-8 LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME
From Year 6 upwards our children are encouraged to take part in our Leadership programme. This consists of working towards Bronze, Silver and Gold medals at the end of each year.
The senior school leadership programme is something we are very proud of and is unique to our school. It began in 2013 and over the time it has been running, we have noted a huge increase in the confidence of our senior school children, of their pride in our school and in their community.
The programme aims to encourage children to take leadership roles within their class, school and the wider community where they accumulate points for each activity they complete. Those who complete all the set tasks and the theory workshops then present their work to the Board of Trustees and a parent audience at the end of the school year.
Children who participate and who are successful in meeting the programme requirements receive very special leadership badges and medals at our final school prize giving.
